The biggest benefit I have taken away so far is to incorporate their advice on managing my risk by making sure I don’t expose more than 1% of my trading account on any one trade by using stop loss orders, managing my position size, and identifying support levels. I appreciate that the author isn’t trying to hard sell his software and newsletter. You can apply the ideas in the book without buying anything more from the author! That is an honest touch that is appreciated. Read more
Trading for a Living
The first half of the book deals with the psychology of both the market and the trader. I didn’t fully appreciate this portion of Dr. Elder’s book until I began trading. This is the biggest obsticle of the trader. His insight has really helped me to understand the movements of the market and myself as a trader. Read more
A Beginner’s Guide to Day Trading Online
As for the positive points of the book, the title is dead on: “A BEGINNERS Guide to Day Trading Online”. The book is a great primer that introduces you to the world of day trading, trading jargon and terminology and, although briefly, charting and technical analysis. The book is well written and Toni Turner does a great job of explaining things in layman’s terms. Read more

This book was a decent, quick read. And it does a pretty good job at explaining the basics to brand new day traders. It also has some good organizational information in there for anyone. But if you’re looking for a book to explain specific setups, time of day, etc…..this isn’t the one for you. Specific trade setups really are just mentioned as a blurb more or less in the book in one chapter. Read more

When you have read Benjamin Graham analysing current ratios and balance sheets until you have decided that stock picking can be done by computer then (and only then) is it time to read Phillip Fisher. Phillip Fisher searches for “growth stocks”, companies with superlative management (superior sales force, superior research and development, clear focus on the business) and he holds their stocks FOREVER.
